Baccalaureate Degree and Residency Requirements
All requirements for an undergraduate degree are listed under Academic Policies and Regulations in the introductory section for undergraduate programs in this catalog. These requirements include a graduation requirement of at least one course in religion or theology.

General Education Requirements
The 42 credit hours of general education requirements are presented in the Academic Policies and Regulations section in this catalog. A course that meets a general education requirement may also meet a course requirement in the major or a course requirement in another discipline.
A student majoring in communication studies must also earn a minimum grade of C- in ENG 101 - Composition I and ENG 102 - Composition II .

Optional: Flexible Concentration (12 Credits)
Concentrations offer students the opportunity to build subject matter knowledge in a particular field, preparing them to focus their professional communication skills within a specific industry sector (e.g., in technology, healthcare, or the arts). A concentration will be designed and named with the student’s communication major advisor and a faculty expert in the relevant area of study. Each concentration will include:
- 12 credits of coursework selected in consultation with the student’s major advisor and a designated faculty expert; this may include a 3-credit internship or practicum in the concentration field of study.
- The student’s communication capstone project, completed in COM 495, will focus on an area of inquiry relevant to the concentration.
