SOC 250 - Medical Sociology

This Medical Sociology course provides the theoretical (conceptual) and empirical tools necessary to understand how health, illness, and health care are significantly influenced by social structure and will also include a sociological analysis of medical organizations and institutions. We will examine the social conditions that relate to health disparities with particular emphasis on variations in patterns of health by social class, race/ethnicity, and forms of gender. Sociological factors are now a major component of the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Students with interests in medicine, social work, law, and policy studies will find this course useful.
