PHL 220 - Biomedical Ethics Credit(s): 3 This course is an introduction to Biomedical Ethics. We will study ethical theories and their application to a wide range of biomedical issues, including; the roles and responsibilities of physicians, patients, and others, research ethics and informed consent, genetic control, abortion, euthanasia and physician assisted death, distributing health care medicine in a pluralistic society, and the challenge of global bioethics. The course is designed as a discussion course relying on instructor prepared materials, drawing on readings from one assigned text. We will first study ethical theory. We will then move on to a consideration of various moral issues through the study of significant readings in bioethics. Offered Even Fall.
